Sioux City History & Culture by Bicycle Part 16: Sioux City City Hall

The current Sioux City City Hall is on the Northeast corner of 6th & Douglas. The building was not always city hall. From 1895 to 1933 the building was the Federal Building & Post Office. In 1948 it became City Hall & has been ever since. The Federal Building was built on the Southwest corner of 6th & Douglas.

The original City Hall was on the Northwest corner of 6th & Douglas. The new police & fire headquarters building stands there now, since 1986.

In the 1990's City Hall had to be reconstructed. The original stone work on the outside of the building was taken apart piece by piece & rebuilt after the building was reconstructed.
