Sioux City History and Culture by Bicycle Part 41: Pierce Mansion

The Pierce Mansion, located at 2901 Jackson St. is currently used as the Sioux City Public Museum.

Originally the mansion was built by John Pierce, as a family home in 1890 for $80,000. The Pierce family lived in the house from 1891 to 1893 when John Peirce lost his fortune in the national depression. After that the house went through many owners including being used a home for student nurses at the former Lutheran Hospital.

1961 is when the mansion was turned into the Sioux City Public Museum. The eventual goal is to remodel the former J.C. Penny building in downtown Sioux City & turn the Pierce Mansion into a period home that replicates what it was when it was first built.
