Sioux City History and Culture by Bicycle Part 81: Sioux City's Haunted History Part 3: Joy Hollow Camp

North of Sioux City, in Plymouth County is a Girl Scout Camp called Joy Hollow. The story goes it was renamed in honor and memory of a camper who got lost and died in the camp because she could not find her way back. It is said her spirit/ghost now haunts the camp and she is still looking for her way back from where she was lost. This happened in the primitive camp site that is not used anymore. The camp staf says the site is no longer used because of it's location, 15 min. hike from the main area of the camp. Could it be it is not used because a Girl Scout got lost, died and now haunts the place?

Another part of the haunting of Joy Hollow Camp is Mary the virgin has been seen with blood running down her face. In one of the older cabins where girl scouts have died it is said the cabin is haunted and reports of floating objects coming out of the shower with hand prints on them.

Of course the staff deny all of this. Maybe because they do not want to scare the Girl Scouts from attending the camp during the warm weather.
