Purple Heart Combat Veterans

The Purple Heart is a specifically awarded as a combat decoration for members of the armed forces of the United States who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action.

This monument is located on the Iowa State Capitol Complex and is part of the Monuments and Memorials Tour in Des Moines was erected by the Department of Iowa Military Order of the Purple Heart and dedicated on February 21, 2004.
