History and Culture by Bicycle Part 208: ARTORETUM

Definition: ar-to-re-tum: a place for art in the trees.

This year marked the 3rd annual Artoretum event in Sioux City, Iowa. As during the past 2 years it took place on a private property on W 45th St in Sioux City, Iowa, nestled in the beautiful Loess Hills. The owners of the property were gracious enough to open their 11 acres to the public to walk around and view these beautiful pieces of art.

This year's exhibit was the best of the 3. It was the year that included a natural installation from Mother Nature herself. The exhibit features art from 10 artists, some local to Sioux City, some not.

This year's Artoretum was a fund raiser for RIGHT TO ROCK, an after school music program for kids by Prairie Productions. The art pieces were for sale with part of the proceeds going to toward the program.

This blog author's personal favorite was the work of Paul Konchagulian. He had 3 pieces on display. Of those 3 pieces HOOK ON WHEELS is the blog author's most favorite.

Enjoy the photo's:

These pieces are new this year:

These pieces are from previous years and are the part of the property owner's private collection:
