Railfanning by Bicycle, 07/13/2019, Sioux City Railroad Museum, 1943 General Electric (45 Tonner) Diesel Locomotive, Engineer for Day, videos

The day these videos were recorded the author did not ride his bike to the museum, but he has on many occasions in the past.

These photos were taken at the Sioux City Railroad Museum.

The railroad museum used to be the Milwaukee Shops when the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, also known as the Milwaukee Road, was in operation. The shop was where maintenance and repair were done to the locomotives, rail cars and equipment as necessary to keep them operating on the railroad.

A lot of the buildings are still standing and are in use today for purposes of the museum.

Today the museum houses a great many pieces from railroad history including a 1943 General Electric diesel locomotive. The locomotive was used by the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps until 1990 when it was retired from service. Shortly after the Sioux City Railroad Museum obtained the still operational locomotive. Today the museum staff use the locomotive to move the rolling stock around the track and on and off of the still operating turn table at the museum.

The museum also offers individuals the opportunity directly interact with history as an railroad engineer and a conductor for a day.

Video footage of the locomotive, receiving instruction and operating the locomotive:

Wild Life: Sioux City, Iowa, Private Property, White Tail Buck & Doe, 07/13/2019

These white tail deer were observed on private property in Sioux City, Iowa. They live near the Perry Creek area. One is a buck that has started to grow his antler. The other is a doe with only three legs, she may have been born without one of her front legs. She gets around just fine and being in a city she is less likely to be attacked by predators. Both are about 18 months old.
