In the land of Riverheim is The Kingdom of Riverssance Festival. Well at least during once a year during a weekend in October in Sioux City, Iowa's Riverside Park anyway.
Riverssance is Sioux City's annual renaissance festival. It is part of the annual River Cade events. The year long River-Cade festival starts in January and ends in October with Riverssance. 2010 Was the 7th Riverssance event. Riverssance portrays 11th to 12th century England. There are hundreds of great acts and performers. New in 2010 was Cast in Bronze. The event is open to the public and if the patrons wish they can dress as people did during festivals in 11th and 12th century England.
Riverssance boasts a gypsy camp complete with belly dancers, a siege machine display, historical representation of what life was like during 11th and 12th century England, a birds of prey demonstration, a royal hound demonstration, food and merchandise vendors, a live full armoured joist, full armoured sword fight, demonstration of other weapons and fighting techniques during that period in history and even a royal court. Patrons are not required but are more than welcome to dress in period garb. This blog author did not this year as it was the first Riverssance he attended, but likely will next year. This years event was October 2nd and 3rd, 2010.
