Parrot Rifle

These muzzle loading cannons, or Parrot Rifles, could fire 100-pound projectiles. They were cast at West Point Foundry in New York. During the Civil War they were part of the armament of the U.S. Steamer Nipsic. Today they are on display on the Iowa State Capitol Complex as part of the Monuments and Memorials Tour in Des Moines.
