Greene County Historical Museum

Located in Jefferson, Iowa the Greene County Historical Museum has on display the history of Jefferson, Scranton, Paton, Grand Junction, Dana, Rippey, Iowa and the other towns within Greene County. Greene County was named for Revolutionary War General and hero, Nathaniel Greene. The first settler in Greene County was Truman Davis in 1849. He settled close to the town of Rippey, near the Raccoon River just south of Squirrel Hollow. Greene County has a rich and proud history. Some of the past residents include a NASA astronaut, an Olympic Gold Medalist and a Medal of Honor recipient. Greene County is also home to part of the Lincoln Highway.
