Martin Luther King, Jr. Tree

This scarlet oak tree was planted in 1984 in memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. Mrs. King asked each of the states to memorialize her husband. Des Moines citizens, Almo Hawkins and Wesley Chapman purchased the marker for the tree. The tree is at the Iowa State Capitol Complex as part of the Monuments and Memorials Tour.
