Big & Mysterious History of Sioux City, Iowa: Roberts and Cordura Murder, William Thompson

It is recorded and taught that Theophile Bruguier was the first white settler in the area that became Sioux City, Iowa in 1849. Almost a year before, 1848, a white settler, William Thompson built a home in the area of Floyd's Bluff. He even platted a town called Thompsontown or Thompsonville, later called Floyd's Bluff City. For a short period of time it was the county seat for Woodbury County. William Thompson does not receive a lot of recognition in the recorded history of Sioux City but he did indeed precede Theophile Bruguier as the first white settler. The area he founded eventually became part of Sioux City, Iowa.
