Located on the banks of the Rogue River is the town of Rockford, Michigan. Just 10 miles north of the 2nd largest city in Michigan, Grand Rapids. Rockford, population of about 5,000 has retained its small town charm while offering the amenities of a larger city.
Part of that is the recreation area of Peppler Memorial Park and Rockford Dam. The original dam was built in 1843/1844 which helped power a sawmill on the banks of the Rogue River.
In 2006/2007 Peppler Memorial Park and the area around the Rockford Dam was renovated. It now offers an overlook to the dam, picnic areas and easy access to the Rogue River Nature Trail and the White Pine Trail. It is also said the Rockford Dam Overlook is haunted by the ghost of a boy who drowned in the river. Witnesses report odd occurrences like losing items after being on the dam overlook, feeling a presence, being pushed, etc. Some even claim to have seen the boy running from the dam into the nearby nature trail.
