Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Flagpole

This 65 foot pole was dedicated to the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) and donated to the state by the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic during their 65th National Encampment of the G.A.R. in 1931. On one side of the base is a bronze engraving of Abraham Lincoln, on the other the Union Army symbol with an eagle.

The flagpole stands at the Iowa State Capitol Complex and is part of the Monuments and Memorials Tour in Des Moines.
