On temporary display at the Sioux City Public Museum is the Homegrown Art: Traditional Quilt Designs exhibit. These quilts symbolize and commemorate historical events. Some were created when the event was occurring, others were created shortly after, while other quilts were created long after the event had taken place and the quilt created for the event commemorates and tells the story of the event. The quilts date back as far as the 1830's or 1840's to 2001.
