In 2018 the Woodbury County Courthouse building celebrated 100 years.
Construction began in 1916 and the building opened in 1918. The courthouse is Prairie School Architecture in design. It was designed by William L Steele, William G. Purcell and George G. Elmslie. Various artists were commissioned to create the beautiful murals and sculptures that adorn the building.
This photo is of the stain glass window near the ceiling of the 8th floor meeting room. The meeting room is not used very often. It is still set up as a meeting room but because of the stairs that have to be navigated to access the room, even from the main elevator's, and the lack of ADA/accessibility it is rarely used today. The top windows near the ceiling are opened with a hand crank system.
