Currently on display at the Sioux City Public Museum is a small exhibit about one of the U.S. Navy's newest ships, USS Sioux City, LCS 11.
Named for Iowa's 4th largest city, Sioux City the Littoral Class ship is part of the newest line of vessel's in the United States Navy.
Timeline:
March 16, 2012 - Contract to build USS Sioux City LCS 11 is awarded to Marinette Marine, a division of Lockheed Martin.
February 19, 2014 - The keel of USS Sioux City LCS 11 is laid.
January 30, 2016 - USS Sioux City LCS 11 is officially christened and launched.
Early 2017 - USS Sioux City LCS 11 is expected to be put into full service with the U.S. Navy.
